Salzkammergut – Bad Ischl

For those with a passion for history the Bad Ischl Golf Club lays claim to an interesting former member. Perhaps more famous off the course than on, Edward Prince of Wales later King Edward VIII, found time, in 1937, to improve his handicap amongst the deep lakes and high trees of the course. Bad Ischl, one of the oldest venues for golf in all of Austria, is set in the breath-taking scenery of Salzkammergut, 30 minutes south east of Salzburg.

Yet another hidden golfing treasure, the spacious course has many charming features. Golfers will enjoy the lush grass fairways, billiard smooth greens punctuated with ancient, knotted timbers and myriad expanses of natural water. The sixteenth affords a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains as you make your way back to the hospitality of the excellent 19th Hole.

STC Golf Team’s verdict:
“Another course with bags of character and a little more space to forgive the wayward strike. The well designed and, as we have come to expect in Austria, superbly conditioned holes make for a really enjoyable round.”
